Simplestyle - Blueby =NorthboundFox

This is just a wallpaper I made out of boredom. I was having some serious issues with gradient banding and I wanted to see if I could pull off a large scale, smooth gradient without any banding. It was a terror, but I finally found a decent way to deal with it.

1. Set the gradient on the layer

2. Render "Add Noise" with these settings
Gaussian, Monochromatic Off, Amount no greater than 3%
(I used .7% for this image)

3. If necessary, do a Gaussian Blur. The amount your gonna need will vary by image, so mess with it.

4. Saving in PNG format helps a ton.

Working in higher color depths will help more than anything. In other words, 16 bit will be smoother than 8 bit. Thats pretty much it. I will say, some colors just don't gradient well at all and some work like a charm.

I have another version of this with the windows logo in the corner , but several people asked for it without, so here it is

Nice. I have a lot of respect for digital artists who take the time to deal with banding issues. They're a huge pet peeve of mine and will easily turn me off from an otherwise great digital piece.
